Letter to Lyn Link on Equality Information

The following letter was sent by London Met UCU to Lynn Link on 11th June 2007.

Dear Ms Link,

I am interested in the University’s positive duties under recent legislation on race, disability and gender equality and understand that information should be provided to the unions to allow a partnership approach.

As a result, could you please provide the following information:

  1. Staff numbers at the University, ordered by grade (i.e. L, SL, PL, AL etc. for academic staff), broken down according to gender, ethnic origin and disability.

  2. Numbers of all hourly-paid lecturers in each department, broken down according to gender, ethnic origin and disability.

  3. Details of all disciplinary actions taken against staff since 2005 and their outcomes, broken down according to gender, ethnic origin and disability.

  4. Details of all grievance hearings since 2005 and their outcomes, broken down according to gender, ethnic origin and disability.

  5. Information on PADAS awards for 2005, 2006 and, when available, 2007, according to gender, ethnic origin and disability. Please also inform me when the 2007 figures will be available.

  6. A copy of the race equality policy, gender equality scheme and disability equality scheme.

  7. A copy of all monitoring information currently provided under each scheme.

  8. Details of consultations with trades unions concerning positive duties towards race, gender and disability equality.

  9. Details of the consultation arrangements with ethnic minority, female and disabled staff and students in reference to the drafting and implementation of the three schemes.

  10. A copy of the arrangements and criteria for using race, gender and disability impact assessments.

  11. Copies of all race, gender and disability impact assessments for 2005, 2006 and 2007 along with details of remedial actions taken.

I am asking for this information for the purposes of collective bargaining and in accordance with recommendations for good practice by the Commission for Racial Equality and the Disability Rights Commission and the requirements of the positive gender duty that came into effect on April 6th. I am also requesting it under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I look forward to your reply within 20 working days.

Yours sincerely,
