London Met Unison - Email to Members - 24/03/07 |

The following email was sent by London Met Unison to all London Met Unison Members on March 24th, and then circulated to UCU Members on 29th March 2007.
Dear all, In the HR newsletter emailed to all staff yesterday various, comments are made regarding the recognition of UCU and its relationship with the University's management. In this regard I think it is important to point out the following: The newsletter is rather 'selective' in its reporting of the interaction between NATFHE and the University's management. As such it presents a somewhat one-sided view of communications between them. With regard to the recognition of UCU, it is UNISON's understanding that the amalgamation of NATFHE and the AUT had the automatic effect that all property of NATFHE and the AUT transferred to the new union. This means that for all purposes UCU is in the place of NATFHE and the AUT and thus inherits all recognition arrangements. Members may recall that this is precisely what happened when UNISON was formed by the amalgamation of its predecessor unions. Lastly, the tone of the newsletter is such that it attempts to drive a wedge between UCU and UNISON by criticising one whilst commending the other. This tactic of divide and conquer will not work. UNISON and NATFHE/UCU have developed a strong and mutually supportive relationship at London Met and we will continue to work together towards our common aims. I am sure that we would all like to wish our UCU colleagues well and assure them of our continued support. Best wishes, Allan Pike Branch Secretary, London Metropolitan UNISON |
